play Sim Shalom

A folk version of the morning prayer for peace. Composer Robin Taback died 15 years ago, and her mother, Lou Ann, has helped keep her memory alive by having Jewish musical artists record Robin's gorgeous melodies on Remembering Robin, produced by Sababa's own Scott Leader. Robbi Sherwin is one of the featured artists, along with Beth Schafer, Stacy Beyer, Alisa Fineman, Peri Smilow, Ellen Allard, Rebecca Schwartz, Judy Caplan Ginsburgh, and Nancy Linder.

Hebrew text from morning liturgy (Sim Shalom)
Music by Robin Taback z"l
Lead vocal: Robbi

play Ashrey

Filled with surprises (check out the Eleanor Rigby-inspired strings on the bridge!), Ashrey lives up to its title as a very joyful prayer. "Happy are those who dwell in Your house, they will sing Your praise forever!" Written in Denver and Austin.

Hebrew text from Psalm 84:5 and 144:15
Music by Steve Brodsky & Robbi Sherwin

play Lo Alecha

A driving rock ballad based on words from Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers). Sababa was challenged by Joe Eglash (oySongs.com) to write a new version of these important words: "It is not our duty to complete the work; but neither are we free to refrain from it." Written high in the Rockies near Frisco, Colorado, July, 2006.

A rockin' version of Oseh Shalom and Yih'yu L'ratzon from the Amidah liturgy. After a very prolific writing session in the Rocky Mountains, Robbi made Scott and Steve stay where they were and write just one more rockin' song!

play One Little, Two Little

Something different for Chanukah: how about some "Jew-wop" vocals? Written during the recording of Robbi's 2nd CD, Aish HaKodesh. Special thanks to producer Herb Belofsky for remembering to give tzedakah, too!

Music and Lyrics by Robbi Sherwin and Katy Jordan (Robbi's daughter!)
Lead vocal: Steve

A lyrical and poetic welcome to the world, written for the Hebrew naming of Rebecca, Rachel, Zachary, and Jessica Van Den Berg. Scott's gorgeous piano perfectly complements Robbi's sweet vocal.

The gifts and hope the Israelites brought to the holy tabernacle are not unlike the gifts we bring to a marriage. Commissioned by Temple Mount Sinai, El Paso, Texas and dedicated to Herb & Ginny Belofsky. Written on a frosty cold Austin winter morning in front of a roaring fire.
